We have completed our 5th week of training here in the Netherlands! We were both talking about how fast the time is going by here. We are enjoying ourselves, really getting to know the team and love that our coach, Dave, spends a lot of time with us not only during the sessions but after as well. This week Dave checked all of our equipment and tuned our blades to make sure they were perfect. We are feeling huge improvements in both our technique and speed as well. This was the last hard week in this training cycle so as we started the week we were already sore. We pushed through all of the sessions and gave it 100% all of the time and we are very excited for our day off tomorrow! To give you an idea of what we do for training, this past week we were on the ice 10 times, had 2 workouts in the gym, 3 road cycling trainings and a few other speed skating specific dryland sessions with the team. We also did 4 ROMWOD routines during the week too. SO, to celebrate we ordered Dominos Pizza since we thought we deserved it!
With all this physical and mental stress on our bodies we do need to find time to rest as well. As mentioned above, we do 4+ ROMWOD routines per week. These routines guide you through stretching as well as breathing techniques to help ensure muscle and joint mobility which will allow you to continue to train hard and optimize your performance throughout a tough week. Before using these routines we found we often took a lot longer to warmup before training sessions and also had increased joint and muscle soreness after practices. We prioritize keeping our mind and bodies healthy and feeling good. Give it a try!
